Flooring FAQs

Flooring is one of the first selections you should lock in — it anchors the look and feel of the entire space. Once your flooring is confirmed, everything else builds around it: cabinets, paint, fixtures, and trim. Finalizing your flooring early also protects your project timeline and prevents costly delays.

Most flooring is priced by the square foot or by the box, depending on the product line. You'll need your room's square footage to get an accurate estimate, and we always recommend purchasing 10–15% extra to account for cuts, waste, pattern matching, and future repairs. We'll help you calculate everything when you request a quote.

We order directly from our vendors — no warehouse markups, no middleman. Most in-stock flooring ships within 2–3 business days. Special order products and custom colors typically take 10–14 business days. If anything is backordered, we'll let you know right away so you can wait or choose an alternative.

It depends on the product and your space. Luxury vinyl plank and laminate are among the most DIY-friendly flooring options — most use a click-lock system that doesn't require adhesive or nails. Hardwood and engineered hardwood are more technical, especially in large rooms or with complex layouts, and typically benefit from a professional installer. Carpet installation almost always requires a contractor. Not sure what your flooring requires? Ask us and we'll give you a real answer.

The right flooring depends on the room's function, moisture exposure, and foot traffic.

LIVING ROOMS & BEDROOMS — Almost any flooring works here. Hardwood, engineered wood, laminate, LVP, and carpet are all popular choices depending on your style and budget.

KITCHENS — You need something durable and moisture-resistant. LVP, tile, and hardwood (properly sealed) are all solid options. Avoid carpet and non-waterproof laminate in kitchens.

BASEMENTS — Moisture is the primary concern. LVP is the top choice for below-grade spaces. Engineered hardwood can work in some conditions. Avoid solid hardwood and standard laminate.

BATHROOMS — LVP and tile are the go-to options. Both handle moisture well and are easy to clean. Avoid solid hardwood entirely in full bathrooms.

HOME GYMS — Rubber flooring is purpose-built for this space. It's impact-resistant, easy to clean, and protects your subfloor from equipment.

What do I need to know about flooring underlayment and transitions?
These details matter more than most people realize.

UNDERLAYMENT goes between your subfloor and your finished flooring. It provides cushion, sound absorption, and moisture protection. Some flooring products come with underlayment pre-attached — we'll let you know what's needed for your specific product.

TRANSITIONS are the strips that bridge flooring between rooms, different floor heights, or where flooring meets carpet or tile. They create a clean, finished look and protect the flooring edges. Most of our vendors offer coordinating transition pieces for their product lines.
